Decade’s top super funds behind higher retirement savings returns

SuperRatings manager of superannuation research and insights, Joshua Lowen, said investment fees in balanced super options had fallen about 7 per cent in the past four years.
“This has contributed to the strength of super fund returns,” Mr Lowen said.
“However, the very strong returns seen over the past few years have primarily been driven by the growth in international equity values.”
He said having a long-term strategy for super was important; everyone’s circumstances were unique; and anyone uncertain about comparing returns should seek advice from their fund or a trusted professional.
“MySuper life cycle options do make comparisons more complex, and it is important to ensure you are comparing similar options and understanding the risk being taken as well as the returns being generated,” he said.
