Super funds suffer first fall in eight months as Australian shares drag
The Australian – 18 December 2025

Last week, fellow superannuation research house SuperRatings reported that listed property and Australian shares caused the November pullback in performance, and it noted the uncertain outlook for inflation and interest rates in 2026.
“It is important to remember the long-term nature of superannuation, and the benefit of holding steady to your long-term strategy should we see increased ups and downs over the second half of the 2026 financial year,” SuperRatings director Kirby Rappell said.
He said while a second consecutive year of double-digit super returns was unlikely for 2025, the median balanced option had delivered average growth of 7.1 per cent annually since 2000.
“Members should be pleased that returns remain strong over the long term.”
